New papers for Pilgrim Offspring are Available
New registration documents for Pilgrim offspring have been produced and are available through the FHANA office. Owners of the horses referred to in these documents will be contacted by the FHANA office. The old documents must be returned to the FHANA office before the new documents can be sent.
Note - New documents are being generated because the maternal grandsire of Pilgrim was incorrect.

Wander 352 approved!!!
Wander 352 (Barteld x Djurre x Mark) has been approved for progeny. As early as November 2003, he was approved for the United States on the basis of his descendants’ conformation reports. For international approval, the number of descendants, although tested for performance, is still too small. This stallion did comply, though, with the number of descendants set and thus qualified for approval. Owned by Nina Miller, California, Wander 352 was approved in the United States in 1996. At the time, by way of exception, permission was granted for a limited number of inseminations in the Netherlands. The report describes Wander’s offspring as well-built, solid horses, who could have displayed better breeding type characteristics. On average, the (limited) group of descendants scored well in the performance tests. In April 2004, the three-year old Doaitsen 420, who had been bred in the United States, was the first son of Wander to be approved.

Following data copied from the FPS:
PILGRIMS GRANDSIRE IS INCORRECT. A thorough DNA testing procedure has shown that Pilgrim's maternal grandsire is not Rients but his former stable mate, Wypke. A routine DNA test involving Fokel, an offspring of Pilgrim's dam, demonstrated that Fokel could not have been a descendant of Rients as he had been registered. Further DNA testing has now shown that Fokel's DNA pattern agrees with that of Wypke - a fortunate accident because Wypke was also a studbook stallion. How this came to light had nothing to do with the approval of Pilgrim in which the line of descent was demonstrated at that time as based on blood type. After all, blood type testing could only help to verify the animal's sire and dam. Today's DNA testing goes a step further: the dam of the tested animal is also tested for her male parentage. This is how it was discovered that Pilgrim's maternal grandsire could never have been Rients. The pedigrees of Fokel, Pilgrim and their descendants will be corrected while the registers of these horses will remain unchanged. The latter appears a more obvious decision that it really is. This is because Wypke was only a two-year-old stallion and not yet approved when Fokel was conceived. To arrive at a decision in this case, the rules and the decision-making process used at the time when Fokel was foaled (now more than 20 years ago) were considered. At that time, the "hulpboek" had already been dispensed with but "bijboek" I and II had not yet been created. In exceptional cases such as those that deal with offspring of foreign foalbook stallions, registration took place as based on a decision made by the executive committee. Pilgrim, a stallion that by this time has been rejected on the basis of his progeny, has 75 offspring, most of them in the US.

THREE NEW STALLIONS COMING TO USA! Iron Springs Farm has already brought in the young Stallion SYTSE 385 Rypke X Jurjen. The Friesian Connection welcome in febuary 2004 the young stallion RINTSE 386 Wicher X Reitse, Also Anton 343 coming to Hennigan Stables at Iron Gate Farm. Summer of 2004

EARLY IN THE YEAR 2004 & 2003 NEWS:

Recently published results for the FPS stallion evaluation for Approval on offspring. ( 2 US stallions are disqualified)
Listed in the following order:
Stallion, Conformation, breeding value, ABFP-average score, Conclusion

Pilgrim 336 99 n/a rejected
Bearend 347 100 n/a rejected
Wander 352 103 69.18 (4) approved for the USA*
Adel 357 99 66.94 (20) rejected
Liekele 364 100 66.31 (19) rejectedd
Jelke 367 100 69.06 (20) decision postponed**
Karel 370 105 72.53 (19) approved
Lolke 371 106 70.22 (20) approved
Nanno 372 100 68.14 (20) rejected
Nanning 374 104 71.46 (20) approved

* More of Wander 352's progeny will be tested to allow his eligibility for international approval.
** For Jelke 367, the number of judged progeny is still insufficient to arrive at a final decision. This decision has therefore been postponed until November 2004.
Four stallions (Herman 359, Jorrit 363, Goffert 369 en Maiko 373) did not complete their progeny judging by the end of one year, so their progeny judging will be continued in 2004. During 2004, all of these stallions will have a service limitation of 75 mares.

Well our Kuering on Oct. 8th was a big success. ( SCROLL DOWN FOR RESULTS) The judges and runners complemented CCFC on a well organized and run Kuering. The arena was big enough to allow the horses to really move out. The day was lovely, All in all there were 39 horses shown. The judges were very helpful in trying to point out what they were judging for, a nice educational experience. I am also happy to report that the gentleman that was kicked is finally on the mend, though he has spent over 2 weeks in ICU and it was a very close call. Thank you all for attending. And please check back for updated postings on the results. All my best, thank you helpers! CCFC president.
